Antea Group Belgium helps with sustainable water management worldwide. Commissioned by UNESCO, we developed the Open Learning Course on Flood Hazard and Exposure Mapping, offered through the UNESCO open learning platform. With this collaboration, we strengthen the knowledge of local experts worldwide. This collaboration confirms our expertise and recognized role internationally in flood hazard analysis and the use of open source tools.

International knowledge exchange in flood analysis

The course is designed for professionals in Latin America and Africa who want to understand the impact of floods as well as develop practical skills to correctly map risks. Using open-source software such as openLISEM and QGIS, they learn to work with data, models and simulations to analyze flood risk and exposure.

Training content

The training will be taught by Sardar Ateeq, senior advisor at Antea Group. He has years of experience in advanced hydrodynamic simulations and strongly believes in sharing knowledge through open-source tools. Participants not only gain insight into the basics of flooding, hydrology and climate change, but also apply this knowledge directly in realistic cases - including in Mozambique.

This course illustrates how Antea Group, through the UNESCO platform, is leveraging expertise for sustainable solutions as well as contributing to a better handling of climate-related risks.
