Steenbossen in Puurs-Sint-Amands

Questions? Let's get in touch.

More greenery, less heat stress, and sustainable water management

With the ‘Steenbossen’ project, Puurs-Sint-Amands takes a major step towards a climate-resilient and livable future. This green area is being developed with a sustainable, multifunctional purpose, aligned with the Spatial and Mobility Policy Plan. Together with Atelier Horizon, we handled the legal and technical aspects. The result? A plan that lives, breathes, and creates space for both people and nature.

The assignment

The municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands commissioned Antea Group to translate the ‘Steenbossen’ masterplan into two concrete components:

  • A spatial implementation plan (RUP) that anchors the masterplan within a legal framework.
  • A technical design that enables the permit application and prepares for on-site execution.

A challenging task, with a tight schedule and a bold ambition: to create a green, accessible, and climate-robust space for everyone.

The solution

Our experts applied an integrated approach. By combining the expertise of our INF and UPM teams, we developed a total vision that is clear, feasible, and future-oriented:

  • We restored the stream to its natural course. This remeandering enhances ecological value, improves water buffering, and reduces flood risk.
  • We translated the masterplan into a concrete and permitted design, actively tackling heat stress through smart greening.
  • We created accessible green zones that invite interaction, relaxation, and nature experience.

Partners and collaborations

For this project, we work closely with Atelier Horizon as a subcontractor for design and planning.
